Carpet patching can be performed in almost any area and for almost any reason (burns, stains, rips, tears, holes, etc). Most patches use carpet left over from the original installation to make the patch. When there is no left over carpet, you can consider having carpet taken from an inconspicuous area, like a closet. Patches are usuallyl obvious since the carpet patch us usually newer and has not received the same exposure / wear as the adjacent carpet. First the existing carpet is addressed to make a clean and precise opening to patch. Then a patch is made from to fit the new opening. The existing carpet edges and the edges of the patch are coated with sealer to prevent fraying / unraveling, and then the patch is hot-melt seamed together.
